Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).

What is a gentle birth?

Thank you for this question

Response

A gentle birth is where there is no intervention at all.  That is, a completely physiological labour and birth with the woman free to move around and take up any position she wishes, without continuous monitoring of the baby's heartbeat, without any artificial means of starting off or speeding up the process, without drugs for managing pain or the placenta and without an episiotomy. What area(s) will you cover?

Thank you for this question

Response

The London Boroughs of:

  • Hammersmith and Fulham
  • Lambeth, Southwark and Wandsworth
  • The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea
  • Westminster

UPDATED: Since working outside of the above London boroughs, I am willing to consider many more areas.  Please complete the Contact Us page so that we can discuss your request.

I live in Brent near to Westminster and Kensington and Chelsea, the areas that your website says you cover, would you consider being my Doula?

Thank you for this question

Response

There are many Doula's on the Doula UK or Nurturing Birth websites that may be nearer to you.  If you would still like me to visit you, please provide your contact details on my Contact Us page.  A joint decision can then be determined based upon your location and my availability.

I am not in any of your catchment areas but I would like you to be my Doula.  Would you consider me?

Thank you for this question.

Response

I believe that everyone who wants a Doula should have one.  As a mobile Doula I am flexible and willing to travel anywhere.  If you have already considered Doulas closer to you, we will meet and discuss how we could make it work for you and your young one.

I am told that I am high risk, would you still support me?

Thank you for your question.

Response

Yes.  When a Client and I work together, she may not be told of her high risk status until later on in the pregnancy.  As a result, I have supported Mums who have had various reasons for being declared high risk.

What age do you have to be to have a Doula?

Thank you for your question.

Response

I cannot speak on behalf of other Doulas.  What I can tell you is there are no age restriction with Little Futures Doula Service.  As an ethical Doula, one of my voluntary measures for the service that LFDS provides, is against the Protected Characteristics in the Equality Act 2010; of which age is one.

You are going through the Doula UK recognition process, are you a trained Doula?

Thank you for your question.

Response

Yes, I am trained.  Doula UK will only allow a Doula to go through their Recognition Process, if they have trained having attended one of Doula UK'sapproved courses.  Additionally, I undertake continual professional development to keep my skills and knowledge updated.  Doula UK is only one of the organisations that I am with for client referrals.

The questions you find on this page are those that have been asked by Little Futures Doula Service's visitors.
