Whether it is going to be a boy or a girl, Little Futures Doula Service (LFDS) says congratulations.
I am a mobile Doula, who has the privilege of being the mother to six wonderful children and the Grandmother of five. The journey that I have been on with them, has given me the experience that I needed in becoming a Doula.
The additional knowledge I gained has been through training, as well as in supporting family, friends and clients through their pregnancies, births, and the highs and lows of parenthood. Seeing birth through the eyes of another taught me not to have preconceptions, what worked for me may not work for someone else.
First and foremost I am here for the mother, birth partner and young one(s). However, I also appreciate that close family, (for example, siblings, potential Grandparents etc.) and friends, may be just as important for the new parent(s) during this time.
I aim to enable a baby-centred gentle birth and enlightened delivery Doula Service, from a cross-cultural perspective. The young one, within their world inside of you, will grow with the nutrition that you provide, and the water of love with which you will wash your baby.
As your Doula, through experience, compassion, love and empathy, I will provide support when required, create an environment of empowerment and assist you in developing your personal strength.

In medieval times it was believed a miniature of the baby was contained within the head of the sperm. "Pregnancy was essentially the process of ripening: the mother was earth to the child, just as in the fields the earth offered nutrients in which the seed could sprout". (Source: Rediscovering Birth by Sheila Kitzinger). Although through medical science we know that there is no miniature baby in the head of the sperm, the analogy of the earth and the seed is very apt when thinking about pregnancy.
What is a Doula?
The word doula (pronounced Doola) is from the Greek and means "in service of". Doula care is a return to the tradition of continuous woman-to-woman support during pregnancy, labour, birth and postnatal stages.
Doulas ensure mothers feel nurtured, supported, and empowered, whilst acting as their Advocate. As a result, the family and the mother should feel safe and confident, during the wonderful journey of bringing their new loved one into this world.
Doulas work alongside your medical professionals, to ensure the environment into which your baby is born is as harmonious as possible. The Birth Doula helps the parents-to-be by supplying non-clinical information and skills. As a Postnatal Doula I help with the transition, from bringing Little One home to the family and being able to solely cope with the addition(s) into your life.
At Little Futures Doula Service, being a Doula is more than a job; it is a vocational passion.
